Being in the heart of the city, non-touristy and authentic local restaurants may be hard to find but if you're looking for such an experience then El Aguador is your best bet. Run by the Villanueva family, this more a than a decade old restaurant is located in a cozy little square off Plaza Romanilla, at the base of the cathedral. The intimate dining space is done in wood and stone, adorned with wrought iron lamps and a wine cabinet, perfect for those special family or romantic dinners. Equally charming is the covered terrace area that overlooks the Cathedral's tower. Food speaks volumes in terms of original flavors and freshness; and their Scrambled Blood Sausage can't be given a miss. Mains are a success with homemade specialties like Rioja Cod, Marisco and Stone Grilled Prime Rib that demand multiple visits. Hit the bar post-dining to taste some really great local brews. Reservations can fetch you the best spots so call ahead.
