Overview
The area to northeast of the Sierra Nevada mountains offers a dramatic display of contrasting landscapes. You'll see high mountain peaks, long, fertile river valleys, badlands of weirdly shaped, badly eroded, ochre-colored hills and stretches of desert. Don't miss the atmospheric cave district of Guadix, where 10000 people still live in caves, carved out of the chalky hillside. The most impressive sight of all is the magnificent Renaissance castle standing alone on its hill at La Calahorra.
