The city orchestra has made a name for itself in Spain and overseas performing at prestigious events like Granada's own International Festival of Music and Dance, Barcelona's GREC Festival, Seville's Teatro Maestranza and Switzerland's Gstaad Festival, to name a few. It has worked with great soloists, conductors and groups like Plácido Domingo, Carmen Linares and El Orfeón Donostiarra and has recorded works by Tomás Marco and Manuel de Falla, among others. It took a long time to form, eventually making its public debut in 1990 led by Juan de Udaeta. The present musical director, Josep Pons, took over in 1994.
