Montejo is the southernmost beech forest in Europe and it's located on the hilly banks of the river Jarama. Beech trees tend normally to be found only further north. This is a great place to spend an afternoon among the myriad of plant species and the ancient trees. There are two (3 kilometer) marked trails in the forest: one runs alongside the river Jarama and the other branches off into other areas of interest. Autumn is the best time to visit and it's worth booking a guided walk well in advance because it can get busy. There is no admission charge.
