Overview
A bullfighting restaurant that was a favorite haunt of Ernest Hemingway, it serves excellent oxtail stew, croquettes, Madrid-style tripe and black pudding. Strangely enough though, despite the down-on-the-ranch atmosphere, the house specialty is fresh hake, battered and deep-fried. Everything is prepared with old-fashioned care and attention and you can tell the difference. The most popular wines on their list are from Rioja (Marqués de Riscal and Viña Salceda) and Valdepeñas (Luis Mejía). The decor, for those who like bullfighting, is a comforting journey through the history of the battle between man and bull in the ring.
