Taberna La Concha, Madrid

This tiny yet popular wine and tapas bar in La Latina - one of Madrid's premier dining neighborhoods - features great red wines and cava (Spanish champagne). To accompany the wine, try one of their hot tapas, like the one with solomillo (tenderloin steak) and duck, served with tomato garnish, or a cold canapé of delectable codfish. The décor is relatively simple, with a hint of the bizarre: local artists' work tends to feature goodies like mock religious imagery and anthropomorphic plants. It doesn't get extraordinarily crowded on the weekends, unlike its neighboring bars, so it's a great place to find a drink when everywhere else is jam-packed. -Michelle Campagna
