If you're in need of a quick bite, but want to avoid fast food chains, head to one of several La Vita E Bella joints in Madrid. All kinds of delicious authentic Italian savories are on offer for very low prices, including calzones, pizzas, sandwiches and pastries with delectable veggie or meat fillings. There's usually a line-up of several people, but it moves pretty quickly thanks to the lightning speed of the staff behind the counter. Seating may not be available, which should encourage you to take your calzone for a leisurely sight-seeing stroll through downtown. Sure beats the 'ol cheeseburger from you-know-where. -Veronica Lo
