Ondarra, San Sebastian

The area along the Zurriola beach is crowded with surfers in every season, which means that when they're done for the day, they head to bars along the beach, like Ondarra, which is only a few steps from the surf. Here, a hungry surfer can grab a pintxo or several-the ones on offer here are simple but good, like mini ham sandwiches or slices of tortilla. This bar is small, which means that when the rain pours down-which is often-it can get a little bit cramped, but the atmosphere is as comfortable as being in your own living room, and in the summer, when the weather is nice, the staff here puts tables out on the sidewalk so that you can nurse your drink while you watch surfers catch the best waves. -Emily Monaco
