Hoguera de San Juan, Zaragoza

Saint John the Baptist is one of Spain's most revered and celebrated Saints. His Saints day is actually June 24, but it is on the eve of the 24th that the traditional bonfire is lit. In Zaragoza this celebration takes place at the Bruil park, marking the end of the Primavera Cultural which is held there every year. It begins at 7pm, when bands begin to play, and at midnight the bonfire is finally lit. When the fire burns low enough, the brave or foolhardy take it in turns to jump over it, while others are happy to dance around it as the musicians return and the party goes on. There are different bands every year.
