The Residence was built in 1648 to 1650 for Field Marshal Lennart Torstensson. He was also Governor General of the counties of Västergötland, Dal, Värmland and Halland until 1654. The Crown purchased the building in 1657. The Swedish king Karl Gustav X died here in February of 1660, during the parliament session. Today, the Residence houses the offices and reception rooms for the County Governor of Västergötland. It is located only a few minutes walk from Brunnsparken.
