Gondola at Le Salève, Geneva

Just across the border from the small town of Veyrier is the majestic Le Salève, towering at 1380 meters (4528 feet). Of the many ways to get to the top, the one that is the quickest and that is assured to give you a rush is the cable car. In under five minutes, you're taken to an altitude of 1100 meters (3609 feet). The initial adrenaline rush is then replaced by fresh air, towering views of lush greenery, Lake Geneva and if lucky, an unparalleled vista of the Alps and Mont Blanc visible through a thin carpet of clouds. This is a surefire remedy if you want to leave the crowds behind, but don't forget to bring your passport; Le Salève is in France.
