At 1400m Villars is at a relatively low altitude (in comparison with many of the better-known alpine resorts). This means that snow cover is not always guaranteed. However, the chair-lift to the Diablerets ski area (which includes a glacier) ensures access to skiing. Villars is a particularly good choice for families and beginner to intermediate skiers, with a good selection of long, gentle runs through wooded areas (100km). It is one of the only resorts in Switzerland whose ski school offers a modern method of skiing and snowboard tuition, which is particularly beneficial for adult learners. It is a relatively uncrowded ski resort, and its 27 lifts minimise wait times. The town is also host to a number of boarding schools, including the famous Aiglon, whose students include royalty.
