Overview
Amstelkerk was originally built as a temporary wooden church in 1668 while a stone church was being built near the site. However, the stone church was never built and the unique Amstelkerk became a permanent church. In 1840 the church was given a neo-Gothic interior, one of the first examples of that architecture in the city. The church is now often used as a concert venue.
