Hill Street Blues on the Market, Amsterdam

The second location of the popular Hill Street Blues coffee shops, Hill Street Blues on the Market, located as the name suggests on Nieuwmarkt to the east of the Red Light District, offers a more relaxed atmosphere than the original. The terrace, which captures the early afternoon sun, is popular in the summer months, while the funky interior's comfortable array of couches and bean bags is a pleasant refuge on rainy Amsterdam days. Chilled out music is usually on offer and the fact that the main room is separated from the staff's serving area means the European tobacco ban doesn't get in the way of your coffee shop experience. -Declan Aylward
