The Tree Cutter, or Little Tree Sawer, has many names and is part of a series of statues placed by an unknown Dutch artist in the 1980s. This statue depicts a little man standing on the branch of one of the trees near Leidseplein, sawing through the very branch he is standing on. The Tree Cutter has been here since 1989 and over the years the branch has grown out past his saw, giving the illusion that he is cutting into the tree. Throughout Amsterdam, other statues placed by the same mysterious artist can be found.
