Overview

It may be housed in a converted bank (Grade ll listed at that), but the interior of this spacious restaurant and bar is modern and very fashionable. It boasts a neoclassical interior with high ceilings and domed skylights. No wonder people like to unwind here at the minimalist bar. The large brasserie serves typical French dishes such as Fish Soup, Coq au Vin, and Wild Mushrooms with Celeriac and French Beans. The smaller restaurant at the back is more haute cuisine with dishes like the Carpaccio of Tuna and Scallops with roasted sesame seeds, oriental spices, black radish and lime.   It's hard to know what to focus on most at 1 Lombard Street: the delightful interior or the fabulous food. Both keep me and my partner coming back for more. We've eaten here on several occasions - mainly because we're made to feel extremely welcome whether we're choosing from the a la carte menu or the set lunches and dinners available in the restaurant and brasserie. The best £25 each we've ever spent was on the 5-course set dinner in the restaurant. We enjoyed an excellent wild mushroom, artichoke and green bean salad, tuna carpaccio with a tangy ginger and wasabi dressing, smoked haddock risotto with quails egg, roast chump chop with truffle mash, followed by strawberries in Sauternes - all expertly cooked and absolutely delicious. Lunch in the brasserie is always busy and bustling and the service is always faultless. Eating in the City can be stuffy, expensive and formal, at 1 Lombard Street nothing could be further than the truth. We'd recommend it to anyone....   Read More
