Disillusioned with poor imitations of so-called ‘home cooking’ in the capital, Lebanese lady Amoul set out to fill a gap for Londoners wanting nourishing, tasty food made with simple, top-quality ingredients. The result is this family-run café and deli that attracts locals with its village atmosphere and inventive dishes drawing on Lebanese and English cultures. Amoul cooks everything that’s served herself, from green of the table Tabouleh, Kibbeh and Brides (flatbread sandwiches) to homemade icecream flavored with mastic (similar to licorice), freshly made lemonade, croissants and cookies still warm from the oven. There’s a strong focus on sustainable business practices, including humane working hours, local sourcing and traditional ways of cooking—a fact that’s evident in both the food and the friendly service.
