Black Pepper, London

Black Pepper is the replacement eatery for Italian local Pepe Nero and, despite the name, has no relation to the Red Pepper chain of restaurants. Italian chef Alberto Chiappa and wife Elinor own this establishment, but the cuisine errs towards being Mediterranean rather than traditional Italian. The restaurant is decorated in bold oranges and yellows, you could easily think you were in southern France rather than Clapham Junction. The food tends to be traditional with a twist and there's quite a bit of seafood on offer. Dishes include risotto with champagne and prawn ragu, ravioli filled with crab, and bread dumplings with juniper sauce - wash it all down with a couple of bottles of Pinot Grigio.
