Overview
Though not ornately done, the Blackfriars Playhouse building has seen and housed some of the greatest works of Shakespeare. The playhouse area was owned by the Dominicans known as the Black Friars due to their black habits. The theater was opened for the public by Richard Burbage along with Shakespeare and his partners. Comfortably accommodating around seven hundred people, the playhouse had plays performed by the famous King's Men, formerly known as Lord Chamberlain's Men. Plays written by others such as Ben Johnson and many more were also performed. This literary Mecca can be a great experience for all the fans of the Bard.
