Once a popular shipping and trading port during the 19th Century, this relatively small stretch of land is now part of the Lee Valley Park and serves as a wildlife sanctuary for a diverse range of aquatic plants and birds. Visitors are encouraged to stop by and look at the various forms of life that have taken up refuge here, such as wild celery and willow plants and birds such as Canadian Geese, swans and mallards. The basin in located right near the Canary Wharf and the impressive Millennium Dome, and offers city-goers a little escape from the hustle and bustle of the busy London streets.
