This tiny drinking haunt is literally just that - haunted, by a soldier. No he didn't die waiting to be served at the pewter-topped bar but by truly violent means, which adds something to the bar's creepy history. Great ales are available from hand pumps and include Courage Best, Old Speckled Hen and Marston's Pedigree, but The Grenadier is best renowned for its Bloody Mary's. The cozy back-room restaurant is a bit of a splurge, but with views of some covet-able mews houses is the ideal setting for a romantic meal. The Grenadier's bar food includes traditional chips, sausages and mash, and hot steak sandwiches.
