Overview

St. Alfege's is the historical landmark in London's Greenwich where Vikings killed St. Alfege, the Archbishop of Canterbury, in 1012. The current church was designed in 1718 by Nicholas Hawksmoor and was included in Queen Anne's 'fifty churches'. In the 18th-century the church was famous for baptizing the poor, black surrounding population, despite the rest of London's opinion of that particular crowd.
