Overview
A part of the architectural heritage of the city, the Tobacco Dock was completed around the year 1811, and functioned as a storage house for imported tobacco. Much later, in 1990, an attempt was made to turn the dock into a shopping center, about GBP 47 million having been spent on its redevelopment. However, the dock did not live up to the expected outcome, and the plan was finally abandoned. Today, the dock is almost completely deserted, but it is used for some events, including corporate and private parties and launches. The Tobacco Dock has been called a Building At Risk by English Heritage, and there are plans to transform the dock completely into an entertainment hub. Call for more information.
