Neighborhood: Hampstead
Overview
This is a pleasant pub near Hampstead Heath, which would be quite ordinary if it weren't for its link with Ruth Ellis, the last woman hanged in England. Ruth Ellis shot her lover, David Blakely after he had been with another woman, just outside this pub. He had treated her very badly so many consider that she should not have been convicted of murder. The Magdala is named after Field Marshal Robert Cornelis Napier, 1st Baron Napier of Magdala, who was a British soldier living from 1810 until 1890. The food is good, the staff are friendly and it has a relaxing atmosphere.
