Overview
Around Fleet Street, visitors can get a taste of the medieval city and a sense of the mystery that surrounded England during that time. Tucked away behind a display window in the small recess of Magpie Alley, left off Fleet Street on to Bouverie Street, Whitefriars Crypt is the remains of the 13th Century religious institute that was home to a Carmelite Order of monks who lived alongside the neighboring Knights Templars. The Carmelites originated from modern-day Israel and lived in the priory until it was dissolved in the 16th Century.
