Mr Thomas's Chop House is a real hidden gem. The tiny bar entrance disguises a larger, superbly appointed pub and wine bar behind, all recently renovated in its original early-Victorian splendor. It must be one of the best places in town for gourmet pub lunches as it's extremely popular. The extensive menu boasts traditional English cuisine, including Mr Thomas's famous onion soup.
