Salford Museum & Art Gallery is of particular interest for its recreation of a typical northern street at the turn of the century, complete with local pub, chemist's shop, Victorian parlor and worker's cottage. It also houses a comprehensive local history library. The gallery on the same site is the home of an important collection of paintings and drawings by L S Lowry with many of the works on permanent show. There is also a Victorian gallery, which includes examples of painting, pottery and fine furniture. Other facilities include a cafe, gift shop and free on-site parking.
