Silver Apples, Manchester

A friendly and unpretentious bar with a quaint folk-themed interior, Silver Apples has amassed a loyal following since opening in February 2009. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, with interesting artwork on the walls, glass lampshades, and even a piano. The venue can seat around 40, and serves a simple and well-priced menu of freshly baked pies and home-made cakes; service is generally good although it can get frantic at peak times. The bar serves a wide range of bottled beers and cask ales, and there's also a reasonable wine list. It's a welcome addition to Burton Road.
