Taurus, Manchester

Located at the far Piccadilly end of Canal Street, the Taurus bar-restaurant has the highly popular Velvet for company, but still manages to assert its own personality and has plenty of fans of its own. The decor is slightly rough and ready, with terracotta and grey-blue walls, stripped wooden floors and plain wood chairs and tables giving an unpretentious feel. Food is available daily till 10p, with a quirky mixture of Asian and contemporary European dishes such as Thai chicken curry and toasted goat's cheese on grilled radicchio leaves. There are also lots of sandwiches and wraps available and a decent wine list to choose from.
