This small restaurant tucked away in a narrow lane offers an authentic Iberian/Mexican atmosphere. The perfect place for an informal meal, its brightly colored walls are adorned with typical Spanish posters. Cocktails, and of course sangria are on offer, and the cafe claims to provide the best tapas in Newcastle. Imported Spanish meats and cheeses add to the authenticity of the food, and the extensive wine cellar has led to Cafe Sol being given an award by the Spanish Tourist Board. Just a minute's walk from the Central railway station, it can get pretty busy even on weekdays. Occasionally, it offers entertainment such as flamenco guitars.
