Powderham Castle stands in an exquisite location, by the estuary of the River Exe in Devon county. Established in 1391 by Sir Philip Courtenay, the castle is presently, the royal residence of the 18th Earl of Devon. The sheer grandeur of the medieval staircase, the classic music room and the intricate architecture leaves the visitor gaping. The castle was badly bruised during the days of the Civil War, however it was restored by the British authorities. The famous Victorian Kitchen is also open to the public and is one of the greatest attractions of the castle. Visitors can relax at the Courtyard Tea Room after taking a round of the castle. Occasionally, private functions are held here during which the castle remains closed to the public. Visit website for more information.
