Ackhorne Inn , York

This must truly be the hidden gem in York's pub crown, rarely discovered as it is hidden away just off the main street. Its traditional open fire is a godsend on cold winter nights, and for summer, there is a small beer garden at the back. The menu is very limited on a Monday, but a larger selection of meals is offered throughout the rest of the week. These are reasonably priced, and two people can eat at the price for one. There's also one of the best selections of real ales and guest beers in the city, and these are rotated almost on a weekly basis. A small function room is available by reservation, for which a buffet service can be provided.
