Artspace (The), York

The Artspace isn’t a gallery in the traditional sense. There are pictures and photographs on display and for sale, but it’s more a place where artists come together and give each other encouragement. There are workshops and regularly changing exhibitions. The Artspace is a low-budget gallery in the shadow of Clifford’s Tower, but the quality of some of the work is astonishing. In addition to visual arts, there is also ceramics. With a hip, cutting edge vibe, there’s nothing stuffy here, but plenty to excite the senses. It’s a place that lives its motto of being arty every day. Not everything will be to every taste, but that’s art! -Chris Nickson
