Masons Bar & Bistro, York

Masons is the type of place to take a large appetite, since the portions are uniformly generous, indeed massive. Open for late breakfasts all the way through dinner, there's a disarmingly informal atmosphere to Masons. It's not haute cuisine, but English bistro food, always excellently prepared. The menu might be quite small, with just 29 items, without wines or beers, but it caters for all tastes, including vegetarians, and it's a place where no one leaves still hungry. Housed in a former grocery, the owners have kept the old character of the building, and this adds to the dining atmosphere. The fact that locals love this place stands as a big recommendation.
