Neighborhood: English Harbour
Overview
Prince William Henry, the Duke of Clarence, built this house overlooking English Harbour to escape the hustle and bustle of the dockyard area. Known as the "Sailor King," he later became King William IV. He had the home built of stone in a Georgian style. It now houses the Antiguan Governor General, though it has had some hurricane damage in recent years. The structure's restoration is being accomplished in stages. You can drive to the grounds for the view, but you can't enter the building. Follow the signs to Shirley Heights, and take a right just before the entrance to the Slipway Marina on English Harbour's west side.
