Overview
The Church of Christ the King has the distinction of being the youngest church in the Anglican diocese of Barbados. While many churches on the island date from the 17th and 18th Centuries, this church was completed in 1974. It was constructed to provide a center of worship for many of the elderly persons in the St. Michael district who could no longer journey to St. Stephen’s, the otherwise closest Anglican church in the area. The idea for the church was spearheaded in the 1960s by then Rector of St. Stephen’s, Canon Basil Ullyett. The church has continued to grow over the years, and extensions have been made to the original church. Many congregation members attend service at both St. Stephen’s and Christ the King. -Marsilyn Browne
