Overview
In 1751, George Washington, on his only trip outside of the US, came to Barbados and rented this home. Located near the Garrison Savannah area, the house is now undergoing restoration by the Barbados National Trust. Washington accompanied his stepbrother Lawrence on a boat trip from Virginia to Barbados in hopes that the tropical climate would help Lawrence's tuberculosis. Lawrence died soon after he returned to the states, but the two-month sojourn in the Caribbean may have affected the course of history.
