Overview
St. Luke's Anglican Church is located in the agricultural district of Brighton in the parish of St. George. The land on which the church stands was a gift from Conrad Pile of Brighton Estate. It is one of six chapels of ease built under the direction of Dr. William Hart Coleridge, first Bishop of Barbados and the Leeward Islands, 1825-1842. Chapels of ease were built to provide worship for persons who couldn't reach their parish church. St. Luke's was built in 1830, destroyed by a hurricane in 1831, and rebuilt in 1832. It is constructed in the shape of a cross, with its altar rail built in a square in the center of the cross. -Marsilyn Browne
