Declared a protected area in 1956, this park is 766 square kilometers in size and is located in the northwestern part of the country. The park is located in the midst of the Central Massif or Cordillera Central, the largest mountain range on the island. Along with its neighbor Parque José del Carmen Ramírez, the park hosts the highest peak in the Caribbean: the Pico Duarte. The twelve most important rivers of the island originate in this area, which along with the endemic flora and fauna, contribute to the beauty of the breathtaking landscape.
