Well known for its display of superbly cut and set cut stones, the building's architecture and beauty is also captivating. The modern concrete design makes good use of wood and bamboo panels for its interiors. The Centre is also the headquarters of the International Seabed Authority and its library. The building is a noted landmark in downtown Kingston, opened in February 1983 by HRH Queen Elizabeth II. The architect made good use of the natural sea breeze; the complex is airy and green. The Awarak Restaurant serves tasty Jamaican and international dishes.
