Playa del Carmen's 5th Avenue (Quinta Avenida or 5 Avenida in Spanish) is the main pedestrian thoroughfare of the city. Located all along 5th Avenue, which turns into the Carretera Federal before and after it reaches Playa del Carmen, visitors will find an abundance of shopping, restaurants, bars, hotels and tourists. Many people refer to 5th Avenue as the heart of Playa del Carmen, and they are correct. There is no way to come to Playa del Carmen and miss 5th Avenue.
