Overview
The Sian Ka’an, which means "where the sky is born" in Mayan, is an unspoiled tropical ecological reserve. Experienced guides teach about this delicate ecosystem which is the largest protected area in the Mexican Caribbean (approximately 1.3 million acres) and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. These are the mangrove forests, dunes, cenotes, lagoons and wetlands that the ancient Mayans used as travel routes thousands of years ago. This is home to over 330 bird species and a host of animal and aquatic life. This small group ecotour includes exploring an ancient Mayan Temple, snorkeling an underground river and a refreshing swim in the clear freshwater lagoon.
