Xel-Ha is a large eco-park located south of Playa del Carmen on the mainland and just across the southern tip of Cozumel. The name means “where the waters are born” as reference to the natural coves and inlets that have created the perfect environment for marine life. Snorkeling is the main attraction here. The park also has plenty of souvenir shops, restaurants, and bars. Snorkel equipment, lifejackets, bicycles, and inner tubes are free to use. Morning is the best time to arrive since the place fills up quickly. Turismo Aviomar and Intermar Caribe both offer regular tours. Admission to the park is about $68 and includes food. Extra activities are available for an additional cost, such as swimming with dolphins or the popular underwater Sea Trek and Snuba.
