This museum is one of the most important and best-known museums in the city. Architect Ricardo Legorreta designed the modern building in 1990. The sculpture, La Paloma (The Dove) at the entrance is by Juan Soriano. Its 11 exhibit halls—distributed on two floors—display important contemporary Latin American contemporary paintings, sculptures, architecture and designs of famous artists. Cultural events are regularly scheduled and there is a gift shop with arts, crafts and souvenirs of the museum, plus a pleasant café on the first floor.
