Overview
Though this site is quite overgrown, volunteers in recent years have recorded this site for posterity. Built before 1690 to protect the town of Charlestown, the fort lies just south of town and once served as the main fort on the island. It was where the Spanish attacked Nevis, and many of the important people of the island were captured. It had 23 cannons in its heyday, and was taken out of commission in 1814 after the Treaty of Paris. There is an old wall remaining, a cistern, and a powder magazine.
