Overview
British naval hero Lord Horatio Nelson lived a storied life, which involved much association with Nevis. This site, which is part of the Montpelier Plantation, was where Nelson married his bride Frances Nisbet on March 11, 1787. It is said that they took their nuptial vows under the branches of a silk cotton tree, which still remains today. Not only does the site hold historical value, but also an aesthetic one as well; the view of Charlestown from here is excellent. Examine the original marriage certificate at Fig Tree Church.
