The Green House is always happening, especially when the U.S. Navy pulls into port. Located across the busy main road from the waterfront, this restaurant sits in the heart of the Charlotte Amalie shopping district. Open to the sea breezes, the tables at the front offer harbor views. A full menu of Caribbean and American specialties make this restaurant especially popular with cruise ship passengers. Burgers, steaks, lobsters, salads, plus local choices like conch fritters, mango-banana chicken, and Jamaican jerk ribs round out the menu. Daily happy hours attract big crowds.

  I have great memories of this place although they were 19 years ago. It was a port call when I was in the Coast Guard. We were all very happy we had just made a drug bust so we were ready to party. The bar was filled with the crew from my ship and we were buying all the beer we could possibly drink when they started playing Alice in Chains and me and a another buddy thought it would be fun to stage dive in to all of our friends. The management didn't see the fun our choice of "dancing" so he proceeded to throw my buddy and I out. That turned out to be a mistake, our Capitan did see the fun in what we were doing and told the rest of our crew to leave as well and move to the next bar. The fun part was all the other people in the bar left with us. Fast forward 2 yrs. I came back to St. Thomas on a Navy ship this time and I bee lined for the Greenhouse. This time I had no plans to get kicked out for stage diving. I was there about 1 minute to get a table when I headed towards the restroom when I was greeted by who I guess was the Manager or the owner, who to my surprise asked me if I planned to stage dive again? I just laughed being completely amazed that he still remembered me after all of the different ships that must have come through. He replied that he appreciated it and the next thing I knew he had sent a bucket of beer over for me and my team. I have always had a great time when I was there, I was bummed when I lost the T-shirt from there. I wish I was there now!!!...   Read More
