Overview

Rich with Roman history, this is the largest archaeological site in Israel, where mosaics, bathtubs, artifacts and a village from the Crusader period are to be found. Caesarea is commercialized with many caf├ęs, restaurants and souvenir shops. The Roman amphitheatre and the Crusader city are set alongside the once strategical point of the harbor and beach, and the Crusader cathedral is a feast for the eyes. Operas and pop concerts by top international stars, such as Macy Gray and Tracey Chapman, are occasionally given in the amphitheatre, with the ocean as a backdrop.
