Helvetia Lokanta, Istanbul

A stone's throw away from House Café Tünel, Helvetia Lokanta is an unassuming place. The open kitchen takes up about a third of the space which along with the tall ceilings and exposed brick work give this place an expansive, yet rustic feel. The menu is handwritten and changes from day to day, ask any of the patrons here and they'll tell you it has the same taste and flavor as mom's cooking. The menu is a good balance between vegetarian and meat dishes, where eggplant mingles with eggs and tomatoes and olives and fruits, with octopus and meatballs. You'll have your fill, but break the news to your mom gently.
