Built in the late 19th Century by Ottoman Sultan Abdülhamid II, Yıldız Sarayı (Star Palace) is the second largest palace in Istanbul. The palace and other building in the premises of Yıldız Sarayı were previously used for administrative purpose by Sultan Abdülhamid II and subsequent sultans. The architecture of the palace is in late Ottoman period style and the interiors are decorated with carved rich wooden furniture, carpets, large ceramic heaters and weapons which are displayed at the museum inside the palace. Porcelain, silver works, painting and lamps are also displayed at the museum. Certain sections of the palace are used to host exhibitions and concerts.
